Between Two Servers #2: Continuing to be Creative and Transitioning from B2C to B2B

BTS Episode #2

Content creation is a multi-faceted role, like many of our roles here at Konverge. With three very different products to promote, Karan’s role involves maintaining a social media presence across all three of these products; MenuSano, Field Eagle, and of course, Konverge.

As well as social media content, creating videos is a huge part of this role, and being able to deliver different types of video content is fundamental for these products. They fall within varying sectors that are so far apart from each other.

This recording is taken from an Instagram Live broadcast on May 15, 2020. Director of Konverge, Sonia Couto and Karan Dholakia, Social Media Content Producer and Videographer discussed being creative out of the office, how being physically apart from team members has affected the way we’ve worked, as well as some of the challenges in creating B2B content, especially coming from a B2C background.

Light Transcript of the Interview

S: We are going to be talking with Karan who is part of our team and we’re going to have a very candid discussion around some of the things he’s doing to keep himself motivated while working from home and also we’re going to talk a little bit about his role at the company and how he’s helping us market ourselves and our products.

K: So I’m the social media content producer and videographer for Konverge and I work on the brands and products of Konverge and my job is to maintain a social media presence across all products and brands.

S: So I guess the first question that I want to get to so that we can go into more creative stuff is, working from home, what are some of the things that you have been doing to maintain your creativity?

K: I mean every day is different and some days are easier than others. I think being in an office allows us to maintain a semblance of consistency, and having a sudden break in the way that everybody works has changed everything. People often have this dream of working from home 24/7. When they think about it, it sounds like a dream but then when it gets to situations like this, everything is completely different. We’ve been forced into this position where we have to work from home and people that haven’t traditionally done that before don’t quite know what to do because this is such a completely different thing. I guess I’m lucky in the sense that my job more or less – depending on the day – requires me to work independently.

Working now in this environment, it can be challenging because you know, the times where you want to talk to someone or you just want to walk over someone’s desk or I want to come and see you and just ask you a question, I can’t. I don’t know what you’re doing. I can’t see through that chat screen – you could be on a sales call, you could be having a meeting, here I am typing away sending you Skype messages and I don’t know what you’re up to.

We’ve had to change the way we completely work, and you know, the last few days have been really incredibly creative for me. I’ve been making strategies and different ways we can do things and it becomes a point where it’s just like, “Okay. We’re going to be in this for a while, what can we do to remain creative from home?”

S: So I have a follow-up question – working from home you’ve had to adapt and change your creativity a little bit to adapt and things like Instagram Live is something we didn’t do before so, now that we’re going to return to work at some point, how’s that going to affect your creative process?

K: This situation has forced everybody to think differently and now going back into the office, we’re going to continue doing that because we have no other choice. We’ve hit a benchmark of what we can achieve and we can only go up now. I think that’s the best way to explain where we are now and yeah, I’m excited to see what else we can do you know. We talk a lot about what kind of stuff we can do with video and what we can do differently that everybody else isn’t doing, and I think it’s going to be an awesome opportunity for us to really try something different.
